Salt Stains on Leather Products – How to Remove Them
In winter, it's usually time for salt stains on your beautiful leather shoes. These occur from road salts used by salt spreading services. If the shoes were properly impregnated beforehand, the salty water will bead off. Sometimes, even your favorite leather bag is not spared.
When cleaning, it is important to differentiate between smooth leather, suede, and synthetic leather.
Salt Stains on Smooth Leather
Soak a cotton cloth in milk and rub it over the salty stains until they disappear. Then, dry the area with a clean, dry cotton cloth and follow up by conditioning or impregnating the leather.
What to Do with Salt Stains on Synthetic Leather
Simply wipe the dirty spot with a cloth and lukewarm water.
Removing Salt Stains from Suede/Velour Leather
Use a leather eraser (available in specialist shops) and gently rub the dirt away from the inside to the outside. Afterward, impregnate the leather with a leather spray and use a suede brush to restore the texture.
