Which type of leather suits you best, and how do you care for it properly?

Gusti Leather goat leather backpacks are made from smooth leather. At first, these backpacks are usually a bit stiff, but with regular use and proper care, they quickly become supple and soft. To ensure you enjoy your new Goat leather backpack for a long time, we particularly recommend beeswax-based care products, as the beeswax forms a protective film on the leather’s surface. This protects the surface structure of the Goat leather from dirt and moisture and nourishes it thanks to the wax’s moisturizing properties.

Gusti Leather backpacks made of Cowhide leather or Buffalo leather, on the other hand, are more robust due to their thicker material and are therefore also slightly sturdier than models made of Goat leather. After some time, however, these two types of leather will also feel beautifully soft. When it comes to care, you should definitely pay attention to the type of leather your backpack is made of, because backpacks made of suede generally require a different type of care than those made of smooth leather.

For backpacks made of smooth leather, products that both replenish the leather’s natural oils and form—or restore—a protective film on the surface are particularly suitable. For so-called semi-aniline leather (smooth leather with a treated surface), care products based on colorless leather creams and lotions are therefore recommended, ideally in combination with a waterproofing spray if the previously used care product does not already have surface-sealing properties. For backpacks made of aniline leather (smooth leather with a natural surface texture and no additional sealing), special aniline leather or wax sprays are recommended. Avoid using liquid or cream-based care products (risk of staining!).

Suede backpacks, on the other hand, should be brushed up from time to time with a special brush or a plastic sponge to prevent greasy spots from forming and to brush out any dirt. Again, avoid using liquid or cream-based care products, as these can cause stains on suede. To protect the surface, however, you can use wax sprays or waterproofing sprays designed for suede and smooth leather.
